Answer 17-16. Parameningeal infections are outside the dura but adjacent to it (sinuses, otitis, mastoiditis, epidural empyema, epidural abscess - including the spine, osteomyelitis). These often result in elevated protein and mononuclear pleocytosis in the CSF.
